Mr. Nguyen Tien Do, Deputy Head of the Technical Department at the Line Maintenance Center of Hanoi, Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company (VAECO), shared with VNA Spirit his memories and feelings on Vietnamese Teachers’ Day:
I became an internal instructor of the company in 2010. I was approved to be an instructor of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and teach Basic Aviation courses, theoretical and practical knowledge on type-rating training with Airbus aircraft such as the A320, A321, A330, A350, and do Task Training.
Besides working as the Deputy Head of the Technical Department at the Line Maintenance Center, I still have my Certificate of Release to Service (CRS) for Airbuses, and directly take part in repairing aircraft.
To be qualified for the teaching work, Mr. Do underwent a Maintenance Instructor Training course created by Airbus and took the instructor qualification test under evaluation by the Examination Board of the company as well as the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam. (Cre: Vu Tuan).

I was very nervous at first because I hadn’t had much public speaking experience. But it’s a great honor that the company has given me this grand responsibility.
After more than ten years as an instructor, I have stood in front of thousands of learners, including those of my company as well as the employees of other airlines. I have been sent to teach in Cambodia, Singapore, Thailand, etc.
One of my most memorable teaching experiences was when I instructed the CRS technicians of Air Basaka in Cambodia – they come from various countries such as the Philippines, the United States, Malaysia, and so forth. They already possessed vast basic knowledge. I worked really hard to prepare the lessons and materials to answer all of their questions. That ten-day trip in a foreign country was indeed a big challenge for me.
For VAECO, internal training has undeniably helped to build a team of highly-skilled professional technicians that can promptly respond to the demands of VAECO as well as those of VNA’ fleet development.
During my time at the company, prior to becoming an instructor, I was honored to have the chance to learn about teaching from Mr. Nguyen Tan Hon (aka Mr. Theo) – a French-Vietnamese instructor from Airbus. I was definitely exposed to a bigger picture of the aviation industry and absorbed the necessary skills to be an aircraft technical instructor.
With over 16 years in the industry – as an aircraft engineer and an internal instructor – I have been sent to train many courses in Vietnam as well as in other countries. Promptly updating my practical knowledge of different aircraft consequentially helps better my teaching ability.
My wife currently works in banking, and we have two kids, a boy and a girl. I am very proud to follow in my father’s footsteps — he taught precision mechanics at the Vinh University of Technology Education in Nghe An, and is now retired. As I’m an instructor of the Company, I have maintained my family’s tradition, because my father was a technical professor, and my brother and his wife are both university lecturers.
